Dear Selma,
Although we’ve eaten your wonderful food at many occasions over the years and have enjoyed your company at the different functions, we really got to know how you work during the Birthday Party at Castle & Key Distillery. What started out as a small group of friends that happen to be “movers and shakers” of Kentucky and from the magazine world (G&G, Southern Living, Sophisticated Living, etc.) coming down to see the beauty of the place before it opened, quickly turned into a full on event for 240 friends!!! What you did in a a few weeks that would have taken most people months of planning, was short of a miracle. It was so much fun going over to your shop and tasting all the different choices that you had wisely narrowed down, finding the right wine and cocktails (and anyone that knows me, knows that my taste is very precise and am interested in every little detail), how it was going to work with many difficulties due to construction (Whew!) and the realities of the whole evening. We are pros at entertaining smaller groups but this was out of our league and you were strong and sensible when ideas weren’t going to work! That was appreciated.
Honestly, there couldn’t have been one thing that would have make it better. From the decadent Charcuterie Table to the AMAZING Maker’s Mark Cocktails to the gorgeous tables, food display, and fantastic staff…it was a night that everyone is still talking about. You won’t believe the notes and emails we’ve gotten since, all gushing about every little detail you took care of…people noticed every little detail! We are in awe of you and your staff and cannot say enough about this truly special evening. Thank you, thank you! JON
PS The chips passed at 10 PM on the dance floor was brilliant.

I wanted to reach out and let you know what a great job you did at the wedding. The food was terrific. I loved the poached oysters in that buttery broth with French bread. I loved the ham biscuits, I loved the shrimp and grits. It was all so good. The service was spot on. I loved that you set up so many bars and there was never a line. The bartender in the woods was the busiest bartender in Kentucky, I do believe. That bourbon bar was a hit! The gentleman who cooks with you and manned the shrimp and grits station is a terrific chef. He also was super helpful serving drinks and being cheerful. Your food was a beautiful compliment to that gorgeous setting. Bravo!

"... beyond what we could have imagined on our budget."
My fiancé and I recently met with Selma to discuss our plans for the wedding reception. We had an idea of what we wanted to do, but no real direction. Basically, we were just nervous about how all this was going to come together. Within the first five minutes, we were completely at ease and felt relieved that Selma would guide us through choices. She gently suggested ways to be more creative with our selections, while not getting away from our budget. She talked about the color palette and the display of food in addition to the tastes and textures we would be serving. We ended up with a statement, signature menu that was beyond what we could have imagined on our budget. She took something that I was nervous about and turned it into something I’m proud of! I would recommend her to couples – the experience was amazing. Bonus – we don’t have a wedding planner and her expertise and knowledge of the biz was like sitting down with a coordinator for free! She gave us advice (when asked) about where to find honest florists, distributors, bakers, rental places and more.
